Off Leash
We took the llamas and goats for a walk the other day essentially off leash. Only one llama on a halter and lead, we walked to the end of the pond and back. It’s a treat to watch the llamas especially walk outside of the enclosed areas, off lead, just moving freely and being themselves.

more birds
This morning clear and bright, practicing tai chi on the deck. There are tree swallows circling now over the pond. Amazing that the insectivorous birds can get enough food this early. Jet Li the llama seemed interested in my meditative practice and stayed watching near the gate in a comfy lying down spot. Maybe he was just monitoring that I’m up and moving, so when does he get grain?

crystaline
Some days are so brilliant they’re hard to capture on film. Today is a great March day of teasing winds and warm sun full of promise.
We cut some trees Saturday and opened up the pond-side llama enclosure. Looking good. Not a lot of fire wood but we definitely gained water view footage. We opened it up for bluebirds and grazing. Still plenty of catbriar to go.

Aquila
Our lovely girl. She seems to be responding to the vet’s prescriptions, is more comfortable, less “goopy” in her eyes, less mouth fragrance - and better appetite! Yay.

Summer Hair Cuts
Aquila is a delight to work with. She is willing and calm. Here I am shearing her with no restraint to her at all. She knows what to expect and is relaxed.
JetLi on the other hand hates being handled. Although interestingly he was more willing to be brushed after I held up the brush for him to sniff. We didn’t photo the indignity of his shearing in the chute with a belly sling as well. He spits and kicks and is as uncooperative as he knows how. Here’s his finished look: not very short, especially I could have cut his belly plumage except the sling was in the way!

moving toward a show
I’d like to have enough good photography and a cohesive body of work to enter some shows. Here are one or two recent shots.

llamas
Tonight we pastured the llamas in their new area for a more successful hour. They ate more diversely than other times and in different sections of the area - the goats love the big rocks to climb on which is really cute. The llamas didn’t hum and hang around the gate as much. It probably helped that it wasn’t hot. We need to build structures that will make it feel like home for the llamas. A hay manger kiosk and a proper leanto for chillin’ and avoiding flies.
